DAPHNE & JASON HAVENS' FAVORITES OF MIAMI

Welcome to our Favorites of Miami page. My wife, Daphne, and I thoroughly enjoyed living in Miami. We explored much of the city and its beaches, and I hope that this list of restaurants, things to do, and places to see will help others (especially Heckerling (Miami) Institute attendees) enjoy Miami as much as we did.

Again, please refer to my purpose and especially to my disclaimer, which precedes my site directory, by selecting the hyperlink at the bottom of any page on this site. Please periodically revisit this site and provide any helpful comments, links, or other information.

RESTAURANTS (see Yahoo! Miami City Guide or MSN Expedia World Guide - Miami):
(1) Perricone's (Brickell financial district off of S.W. 1st Avenue) - great Italian food, with outdoor seating
(2) Brickell Emporium (near Perricone's) - fantastic breakfasts at very reasonable prices
(3) Miss Saigon (Coral Gables on Giralda) - excellent French Vietnamese food at very reasonable prices
(4) Gastronomia (near Miss Saigon) - very good Italian food and wonderful desserts
(5) Taisho (Coral Gables on Ponce de Leon near Miracle Mile (Coral Way)) - all-you-can-eat sushi at a great price!
(6) Biscayne Cafeteria (the heart of Miracle Mile) - very good and very affordable
(7) Sakura (U.S. 1 (South Dixie Highway) near the U. of Miami) - fantastic sushi
(8) Deli Lane (behind Sunset Shops off of Sunset Drive and near U.M.) - wonderful breakfasts and lunches and inexpensive
(9) Cami's Seafood and Pasta (just beyond Sunset Shops on U.S. 1) - excellent seafood and very affordable
(10) La Boulangerie (Key Biscayne) - very good sandwiches, coffee, and desserts
(11) Chief's Seafood (Key Biscayne next to La Boulangerie) - very good sushi and very affordable
(12) Lighthouse Cafe (Key Biscayne inside the Bill Baggs State Park next to the Cape Florida Lighthouse) - very good seafood and inexpensive
(13) Tiramisu (Lincoln Road on South Beach) - excellent Italian and also a very good cafe attached to the main restaurant
(14) News Cafe (Ocean Drive on South Beach or Coconut Grove (and we enjoyed the latter more)) - excellent casual dining and very good prices
(15) Joe's Stone Crab (South Beach near the Floridian) - excellent seafood and worth the wait (during the tourist season)
(16) Carpaccio (Bal Harbour Shops (beyond North Miami Beach)) - excellent Italian and seafood and good prices

THINGS TO DO (see Yahoo! Miami City Guide or MSN Expedia World Guide - Miami):
(1) Professional sporting events
(2) U.M. events (including championship baseball and football programs)
(3) Beaches: Key Biscayne (our favorite), South Beach, Bal Harbour, or drive to Fort Lauderdale, the Palm Beaches, or Vero Beach (excellent)
(4) Golf (see Florida Golf Guide): almost anywhere but our favorite was Crandon Park (formerly Links at Key Biscayne) on Key Biscayne
(5) Boating (including many tours and a local water taxi)
(6) Jogging or rollerblading: South Beach (best), Brickell area (very good), or Coconut Grove (South Miami Avenue (becomes Bayshore Drive))
(7) Coconut Grove - one of our favorite places to spend time listening to outdoor music, shopping, eating, or going to the movies (Cocowalk or Mayfair)
(8) Sunset Place - another excellent outdoor mall with restaurants, movies, and surrounding shops
(9) Bal Harbour Shops - exclusive outdoor shops (that we could not afford!) and excellent affordable restaurants, with waterfalls and ponds throughout the mall
(10) The Falls - yet another outdoor mall and probably our favorite place to walk beside the cascading waterfalls and beautiful landscaping

PLACES TO SEE (see Yahoo! Miami City Guide or MSN Expedia World Guide - Miami):
(1) Fairchild Tropical Gardens (Web Site) - exquisite gardens
(2) Vizcaya (Vizcaya Online) - a fabulous Italian Renaissance mansion built by Chicagoan James Deering
(3) Key Biscayne - our "paradise island" (besides our Brickell Key) just a few minutes from downtown
